The magnetic examination is the non-destructive examination method used to determine the surface breaking imperfections within the material without damaging the material with the usage of the magnetic current.
The Magnetic Particle Test is a practical testing method used for the non-destructive testing of the materials and it does not require extensive surface preparation and is faster when compared to other methods. These advantages make the magnetic particle test one of the most frequently used methods.
• THE MAIN PRINCIPLE
Magnetic particles and magnetic fields are used to determine defects with this method. The only limit of this method for the test pieces is the requirement of having ferromagnetic properties (including Fe, Ni, Co alloys).
• APPLICATION & ADVANTAGES
Magnetic Particle Examination is an examination method used to determine the surface and subsurface discontinuities of iron, nickel, cobalt materials and their alloy combinations with ferromagnetic properties.
The magnetic field is created on the material surface as the result of the direct current applied to the material by the magnetic particle device. If there is a discontinuity on the material, N and S poles emerge at the ends of this discontinuity. These poles cause the formation of magnetic current patterns that allow us to determine the discontinuities. When a special solution (which is a mixture of iron powder and fluorescent substance) is applied on the materials, the iron powder accumulates on the area patterns on the discontinuities and this allows us to determine them. If any, the thickness of the paint or coating on the examination surface will directly affect the examination result.
• OUR APPLICATION FIELDS
The magnetic particle examination is a fast and precise non-destructive examination method to determine the surface discontinuities. This technique is commonly used in iron&steel production sector, aviation/maritime sectors, casting, forging and machining sectors, steel construction and welded production areas.
As EKA NDT, we offer and perform the magnetic particle examination services with our state-of-the-art magnetic particle examination devices and with the help of our experienced level II and level III teams (EN & ASNT) in these application fields and we prepare reports for the examination results based on the international codes and standards.
