Radiographic Examination

The radiographic examination is the non-destructive examination method used to determine the volumetric defects within the material without damaging the material with the usage of X and gamma rays.

This method is commonly used as it allows us to see the defects within the material body on films for easy explanations.

• THE MAIN PRINCIPLE

The radiographic examination is based on the principle of sending X and gamma rays on the part that is wanted to be examined, and when these beams penetrate the piece, the related image is created on the film layer placed behind the piece. The light that creates the image with varying densities at various locations on the film, shows the way to determine the defects we want to examine.

• APPLICATION & ADVANTAGES

Various types of radiation beams can be used for the radiographic examination. The beams used for the radiography are the isotopes that produce gamma beams or the X-ray tubes.

- The most commonly known & used gamma sources are Ir 192, Co 60. Moreover, Se 75, Yb 169 Tm 170 etc. isotopes are also used in the industrial radiography field.

Some of the beams are absorbed when they pass through the material depending on the thickness and density of the material and the internal image of the material is obtained thanks to the thickness-density changes and gaps within the material. Therefore the existence of the gaps, pores, cracks etc. discontinuities within the material body can be determined. In other words, the radiographic examination is about directly obtaining the photo of the created bonding.

The faults determined with the help of the radiographic examination are determined with the allowable fault sizes based on the related standards and the examination results are very suitable in terms of documentability. The x-ray photos of many structural elements such as the bridges, pipelines etc. can be stored during the usage life of the piece and the examination quality can be controlled by examining the films.

• OUR APPLICATION FIELDS

Thanks to our own X RAY and GAMMA-RAY (Ir 192 and Se 75) devices, we are able to obtain the x-ray films of every type of welded, cast and forged pieces and document their properties in scope of the standards that suit the examination piece properties with the help of our experienced operators by meticulously fulfilling the requirements of the radiation safety.
